Dive Brief:
- Agricultural trading giant Louis Dreyfus Company on Monday named Nigel Mamalis, a current advisor and company veteran, as its interim finance chief. Mamalis is taking the finance reins, effective immediately, following the sudden death of the company’s long-time CFO Patrick Treur last month.
- Mamalis has been working for the Netherlands-based LDC in an “advisory capacity” since 2019 and previously held a range of positions in risk, finance and management areas, including serving as deputy group CFO and chief compliance and risk officer, according to a press release.
- The company announced on Dec. 24 that Treuer had “passed away unexpectedly overnight,” noting that he had contributed “significantly” to the group, citing his strategic vision and expertise and stating that he would be “greatly missed.” The comment declined to respond to a question on the cause of Treuer’s death.
Dive Insight:
Treuer worked for Louis Dreyfus for over a decade, serving as CFO for more than six years, according to his LinkedIn profile. His previous titles included chief strategy officer and globally head of strategy. Earlier in his career, he served as a managing director at Credit Suisse.
Separately Treuer, 52, was also mourned by the Sunderland AFC soccer team, where he was one of the club’s non-executive directors. In a release, Sunderland AFC cited Treuer as playing a key role in its journey to the Premier League. Treuer was remembered with a moment of silence ahead of a Premier league game late last month, according to a media report.
As interim CFO, Mamalis will report to the Group CEO and be based in Geneva Switzerland. “Over more than 30 years working for and with LDC, Nigel has made many valuable contributions and been a trusted member of our leadership team, leveraging his extensive knowledge of our business and industry to support LDC’s operations and strategic developments. I am confident that he will continue to do so in his capacity as Interim CFO,” Michael Gelchie, LDC’s CEO, said in a statement in the release.
